What:
SST8 PBIS: Effective Classroom Management Practices
Presented by SST8 Consultants
When:
August 8 and August 9, 2019
9:00 am-3:00 pm
Where:
State Support Team Region 8
Room 17 / 19
Why:
This series will focus on utilizing effective PBIS practices in the classroom. Classroom practices that will be discussed include: active supervision, activity sequencing and choice, opportunities to respond and task difficulty. In addition, connections to school-wide PBIS structures will be made. These connections will be made through the illustration of the following classroom practices: developing expectations, teaching classroom procedures and routines, encouraging expected behavior and discouraging inappropriate behavior. Practices shared at this professional development will help teachers strengthen behavior management in their classroom.

PBIS is a framework or approach for assisting school personnel in adopting and organizing evidence-based behavioral interventions into an integrated continuum that enhances academic and social behavior outcomes for all students. PBIS IS NOT a packaged curriculum, scripted intervention, or manualized strategy. PBIS IS a prevention-oriented way for school personnel to (a) organize evidence-based practices, (b) improve their implementation of those practices, and (c) maximize academic and social behavior outcomes for students. PBIS supports the success of ALL students (PBIS.org).

Participants will:
• Identify the rationale for implementing PBIS in the classroom
• Understand aspects of a classroom PBIS framework
• Understand overarching expectations and determine how they will be taught to students
• Understand reinforcement systems and systematic plan for error correction
• Identify research-based practices for a classroom including activity sequencing and choice, opportunities to respond and task difficulty
• Identify resources for PBIS at the state and national level
